The article analyzes the specifics of social protection models in developed countries. The essence and specifics of various models of social protection of the population in the European and American continents are revealed. The system of social protection is interpreted as a sphere of professional activity. In the course of studying this issue, the author summarizes the common and distinctive features of social protection models. According to the author, the formation of a certain model of social protection of the population is due to the socio-economic, geopolitical and cultural characteristics of the state. These differences are determined not only by the content of the social protection system, but also by the variety of resources, mechanisms and technologies that ensure the activity of this sphere, as well as the effectiveness of professional social protection of the population. The models mentioned in the article established a number of forms of benefits and social assistance in order to provide social support to the population, and also developed a social assistance program to provide assistance to those in need of social protection. The practice of these programs is based on the local capacity of each country.
