This article analyzes the degree to which the author’s style, artistic imagery, national and cultural elements, and semantic nuances are preserved in the translation process. The study examines various translation versions of a single short story in order to explore the issues of proximity to the original text and translation adequacy from a theoretical and analytical perspective. Furthermore, the theoretical foundations of equivalence and adequacy are discussed, along with a comparative analysis of the translator’s individual style and level of interpretation relative to the source text. The research findings indicate that, in translation, not only fidelity to the original but also cultural adaptation play a crucial role in maintaining the communicative and artistic value of the text.
