Annotatsiya

The Sogdian oasis, located in the heart of Central Asia, was the economic, cultural, ethnic, linguistic and religious center of the ancient Silk Road. An attempt has been made to scientifically substantiate the fact that Muslim geographers gave different information about the borders of the Sogdian region and the cities and villages included in this region. It is not without reason that Muslim geographers conveyed contradictory information about the location of Sogd, as well as Samarkand and Bukhara, which was a consequence of the political and administrative changes that occurred in the region from time to time. The coming to power of a new ruling dynasty in the region and the implementation of changes in political and administrative governance, the movement of administrative centers, etc. led to the emergence of new ideas among the local population. It is not surprising that Muslim geographers, having heard from local residents about such historical events, began to argue about Sogd and its constituent parts. The article examines the historical geography of the Sogdian oasis, one of the most ancient historical and cultural lands of Central Asia, its borders and active participation in international trade and economic relations, its population and material culture, as well as the level of study of the region, and makes a number of conclusions.
