This article presents a scientific and analytical study of regional economic development in the Uzbek SSR based on the example of the Khorezm region. The research analyzes the impact of the centralized economic policy of the Soviet period on regional development, agricultural specialization, and the expansion of irrigation systems. In particular, the development of cotton production, the increase in irrigated land areas, and the formation of industrial infrastructure played an important role in the economic growth of the region. The study also discusses both positive and negative aspects of regional economic policy, including one-sided economic specialization and emerging environmental problems. The results of the research contribute to a better understanding of the influence of the Soviet economic model on regional development and can serve as a scientific basis for improving modern regional development strategies.
