This article explores the genre of elegy in Karakalpak literature, focusing on its genre-typological characteristics and the modes of representing the emotional state of the lyrical subject. The study is conducted through a comporative analysis of the lyrical works of Kengesbay Rakhmanov and a number of the poets, supported by a detailed examination of poetic texts with representative examples. Particular attention is paid to the functional role of poetic detail as a carrier of symbolic meaning, as well as to the impact of lyrical form on the semantic structure of the work. The similarities and differences among lyrical texts expressing motifs of grief and sorrow are edentified based on the theoretical and methodological frameworks proposed by local scholars.
