This article analyzes the material living conditions and social situation of the population of the Surkhan oasis during the Second World War based on archival documents. The study highlights the shortage of food and fuel during the war years, the introduction of the bread ration card system, and the problems related to supplying the population with essential goods. It also examines the activities of collective farms, the harsh working conditions of the population, and the economic measures implemented by the state. Furthermore, the article discusses the deterioration of medical services, the spread of typhus and other infectious diseases, as well as sanitary and hygienic problems. In addition, the impact of drought, famine, and demographic changes on the lives of the population is revealed.
