The article describes the essence of the term ulus, aspects of its use in differenthistorical periods, using a number of sources and literature. At the same time, the history of Genghis Khan's distribution of ulus (land) to his children and the issue ofwhich author used the term "ulus" meaning property ownership in the MongolEmpire for the first time have been noted.
