To study the state of physical and mental development of children of the first year of life, born with very low and extremely low body weight. The study included 75 children with a birth weight from 560 to 1500 g. The gestational age was 24-32 weeks. Depending on the birth weight, the children were divided into 2 groups. Group 1 included children with a birth weight of up to 1000 g, group 2 - with a birth weight from 1001 to 1500 g, and group 3 - 1500 g and above. The results of the study showed that mothers of premature infants had a high incidence of somatic, gynecological diseases, pathologies of pregnancy and childbirth, which contributed to the development of fetoplacental insufficiency and miscarriage. The average indicators of physical development of premature infants at birth corresponded to the gestational age. In dynamics, by the end of the neonatal period, the indicators of physical development in all groups were significantly lower than in healthy newborns.
