The article describes the astragal bones of animals discovered during archaeological excavations, their use in ancient times and their significance as a gambling item. In interpreting the astragal bone found in the Sungak burial ground, similar objects were compared with finds from archaeological sites in Uzbekistan. Since the Bronze Age, the astragal bone has been used for various purposes and is often found in excavations of ancient cities, settlements and graves. In the context of dice games, it played an important role in the life of nomadic communities engaged in cattle breeding. The discovery of these bones in settlements and urban ruins indicates the popularity of the game among the sedentary population as well. Finds of astragals in graves can be interpreted as gaming sets symbolizing the age of the child and his main activity, as ritual food to ensure "good nutrition" after death, as guardians and protectors of the soul of the deceased, or as magical objects that served to communicate with the gods of the afterlife.
