The article, based on various sources and literary works, reveals the essence of the term “ulus”, as well as aspects of its use in different historical periods. At the same time, special attention is paid to the history of Genghis Khan’s distribution of uluses (lands) to his children, and the question of which author first used the term “ulus” to denote property in the Mongol Empire is considered.
