This scientific article provides a research-based analysis of the role andsignificance of tourism in the socio-economic development of a country and its regions. The paperexamines the definitions of "tourism" given by local and foreign scholars, as well as the impact oftourism on gross domestic product (economic growth), the country's trade and payment balance,exports and imports, the state budget, investment activity, economic sectors, total income andemployment, the business environment, the green and digital economy, and other macroeconomicindicators. The study analyzes the role of tourism in regional development, its importance inattracting investments, and its contribution to supporting local entrepreneurship. Based on theresearch findings, scientific and practical recommendations for ensuring sustainable tourismdevelopment have been proposed.This article is of theoretical and practical significance for researchers in the field of tourism,specialists in economics and regional development, as well as policymakers in tourism policy.
