The term "digital economy" was first introduced as a distinctconcept by Don Tapcott in his 1995 publication, "The Digital Economy: Promisesand Perils in the Age of Networked Intelligence." This publication defined the keycomponents of the digital economy: fundamental innovations (semiconductors,processors), underlying technologies (computers), and connectinginfrastructures (the internet and telecommunications networks).
