Hypertension in the elderly is a serious medical problem that requires attention, as it increases the risk of developing many diseases that worsen the quality of life. With age, blood vessels become stiffer and less elastic. This hinders their ability to adapt to changes in pressure in the body. Timely diagnosis and treatment of hypertension are critical to prevent severe cardiovascular complications. Echocardiography is an important diagnostic tool for identifying changes in the heart associated with hypertension. This article reviews the main echocardiographic changes in hypertension, including left ventricular hypertrophy (LVH), diastolic dysfunction, left atrial enlargement, and other structural and functional changes. The clinical implications of these changes and the role of echocardiography in their detection and monitoring are assessed.
