The relationship between allomorphs and allophones in english: a comparative phonological and morphological study

This article examines the differences between allophones and allomorphs through a descriptive and comparative review of linguistic concepts and examples. It explains phonetics, phonology, phonemes, and morphemes, illustrating allophones with aspiration in pin and spin and allomorphs with English plural and pasttense endings, as well as a and an. The analysis shows that allophones represent variations in pronunciation without changing lexical meaning, whereas allomorphs are different forms of the same morpheme. Understanding this distinction is essential for accurate linguistic analysis, English language teaching, and the study of therelationship between sound and grammar.
