A linguistic analysis of sport lexicon

Annotatsiya

This article presents a linguistic analysis of sport lexicon as a dynamic and rapidly expanding layer of specialized vocabulary. The study explores the thematic classification of sport terms across various disciplines, the productive word-formation processes that generate new sport terminology, and the semantic phenomena (metaphorization, polysemy, synonmy) characteristic of this lexical domain. Using descriptive, component, and comparative-contrastive analysis of English, Russian, and Uzbek sport terminology, the researchidentifies compounding, borrowing, and metaphorical transfer as the dominant mechanisms of sport-term formation.
