Crowdfunding can be an important alternative financing method for small businesses, start-ups, and non-profit organizations. But trust in these platforms needs to be built before potential users decide to use crowdfunding, and so far, there has been no detailed analysis of how crowdfunding platforms build trust among users. A comparative analysis of crowdfunding platforms reveals a diversity of organizational practices aimed at ensuring four levels of trust: trust in the platform, the project, the users, and the concept of crowdfunding as a whole.
