The importance of anthropometric indicators and psychological compatibility in forming pairs in acrobatic gymnastics

This article analyzes the scientific and methodological foundations for the integrated consideration of anthropometric indicators and psychological compatibility when forming pairs in acrobatic gymnastics. Within a diagnostic pedagogical experiment, 60 athletes aged 12–18 years were divided into six subgroups according to pair category (men’s, women’s, and mixed pairs) and functional role (top and base), with 10 athletes in each subgroup. Body height, body mass, arm length, arm-length-to-height ratio, shoulder breadth, and pelvic breadth were summarized descriptively as M ± SD. Across all three pair categories, the mean absolute anthropometric values of base gymnasts were higher than those of top gymnasts; however, because age and biological maturation were not controlled separately, these differences were not interpreted as causal or statistically established advantages. The role of psychological compatibility was examined theoretically on the basis of scientific literature and pedagogical observations. An integrative approach to pair formation is proposed, combining anthropometric profiling with technical-functional readiness, mutual trust, cooperation, and dynamic pedagogical monitoring.
