Morphometric characterization of the palatine tonsil in clinically healthy children of the second period of childhood (8–12 years)

Annotatsiya

The aim of the study was to determine the morphometric parameters of the palatine tonsil in clinically healthy children of the second period of childhood (boys aged 8–12, girls aged 8–11). In parallel, the work sought to assess whether sex-related differences exist in the indices of the lymphoepithelial apparatus at the final stage of its functional maturation. The palatine tonsils of 23 children were examined — 13 boys and 10 girls. None of the participants showed signs of inflammatory pathology. The sections were stained with hematoxylin and eosin. Analysis of the data showed that by the age of 8–12 years the palatine tonsil is already close to its final structural maturity. The crypts grow deeper, the germinal centers become larger, and the B-cells continue to divide actively. The stroma, meanwhile, shows almost no inflammation.
