Abstract This study aims to investigate the process of terminologization of phraseological units within scientific discourse, a phenomenon that remains underexplored despite the growing recognition of phraseology as a central component of linguistic systems. The research synthesizes and critically examines the perspectives of various scholars on terminologization in phraseology. The study employs a range of linguistic and interdisciplinary methods, including linguistic description, oppositional analysis, transformational analysis (derived from communicative linguistics), and semantic analysis. The findings demonstrate that phraseological units systematically undergo terminologization when they acquire precise, specialized meanings within scientific domains. This process transforms conventional figurative expressions into stable terminological units that function as effective tools for scientific conceptualization and communication. The study identifies key mechanisms and conditions that facilitate this terminological shift. The terminologization of phraseological units is not only a relevant but a necessary area of investigation in contemporary linguistics. Given that phraseological units are indispensable to any language, understanding their evolution into terminological systems contributes significantly to terminology studies, discourse analysis, and the broader field of linguocognitive research. Further systematic research is required to map the full scope of this phenomenon across different scientific disciplines.
