In this article, the author from a forensic position considers the main components of the actions of the investigator to verify reports of trafficking in newborns, and making a decision to initiate a criminal case, that is, the entire algorithm (complex) of procedural and operational actions. In particular, the author notes that the analysis of judicial and investigative practice in cases of trafficking in newborns leads to the conclusion that there are two main groups of committing this crime. The first group is actions for the direct sale and purchase of newborns, the second consists of other transactions with them. Each of these groups is covered in detail in the context of organizational and functional support for commission of a crime. In the course of preparing the scientific work, the materials of judicial and investigative practice were comprehensively studied, based on the analysis of scientific literature, several typical investigative situations are given, which are divided conventionally into simple and complex (problem). The author indicates the most common sources of initial information, which serves as a pretext for initiating a criminal case on the fact of trafficking in newborns. The author presents the results of the study practical conclusions and conclusions.
