This scientific article is devoted to the study of the historical source of the Amudarya and the Aral Sea, given their importance in the history of transport communications in the region. The scientific article focuses on the history of the study of the Amu Darya and the Aral Sea, based on the oldest written sources, works of foreign countries, local scientists and archival materials.
