Anthropometric parameters of head measurements in schoolchildren aged 7-12 years living in industrial areas of Tashkent region

Background: Environmental factors in industrial areas may impact significantly children's physical development. Head measurements serve as important indicators of cranial growth and neurological development in school-age children. Objective: To assess anthropometric indicators of head measurements in schoolchildren aged 7-12 years living in industrial areas compared to those in non-industrial regions. Methods: A cross-sectional comparative study was conducted involving 240 school children (120 boys, 120 girls) aged 7-12 years. The study group consisted of children living in industrial areas of Tashkent region, while the control group included children from non-industrial areas. Three head measurements were taken: horizontal head circumference, longitudinal diameter, and transverse diameter. Statistical analysis was performed using SPSS 23.0. Results: Boys consistently showed higher measurements than girls across all age groups (0.2-0.4 cm difference). Control group children demonstrated superior measurements compared to the industrial group: head circumference (0.4-0.7 cm), longitudinal diameter (0.2-0.3 cm), and transverse diameter (0.3-0.4 cm). Annual growth rates were: head circumference 0.4-0.5 cm/year, longitudinal diameter 0.2-0.3 cm/year, and transverse diameter 0.2 cm/year. Conclusion: Children living in industrial areas showed relatively lower anthropometric indicators, suggesting potential negative environmental impacts on physical development. These findings emphasize the need for environmental health monitoring and protective measures for children in industrial regions.
