Risk factors for surgical complications of ventral hernia repair, the need for intensive care and rehospitalization after repair were identified from the literature. The hypothesis that there is an association between the increased incidence of complications after ventral hernia repair and specific factors including hernia size, BMI>35, concomitant bowel surgery, ASA class, age, gender, and hernia repair method was supported.
