This article examines the linguistic and discursive features of substandard vocabulary in Uzbek fiction, highlighting their linguoculturological, sociological aspects, and translatological problems. In this regard, theoretical and scientific approaches of Western and Eastern linguists to this issue are analyzed. In our research work, comparative method (in the context of English and Uzbek languages), typological method (according to characterological features), descriptive method (through tables), distributive analysis (through the expression of certain substandard units in artistic discourse), statistical analysis method (in terms of quantitative indicators of lexical units), and translatological (translation methods) approach methods were used. Based on the results of our work, the use of substandard lexical units in artistic discourse and the reflection of linguocultural concepts in their translation into non-related languages were clearly proven using examples from Gafur Gulom's "Shum bola" story. In conclusion, we achieved the following: 1) the existence of substandard lexical units in artistic discourse was consistently analyzed, and their importance in the communication process was revealed; 2) it was found that the word-for-word translation method is not always acceptable for the translator in the translation of substandard units from Uzbek into English in a literary text, as this method can create difficulties in conveying the meaning correctly; 3) it was proved that analog and adequate translatological methods are more successful in translating substandard units, and their application in accordance with the cultural and linguistic context is effective.
