Relevance. The therapeutic use of scleral lenses in the treatment of pathology of the cornea and anterior segment of the eye has been studied since the late 1980s. Scleral lenses have become actively used in the treatment of pathologies of the cornea and the anterior segment of the eye. Scleral lenses differ from ordinary local drops in their action on the cornea and paralimbal epithelium, the effect of long-term moisturizing. From a therapeutic point of view, scleral lenses can perform two tasks at once: protect the surface of the eye and restore visual acuity in patients with epithelial irregularities. The purpose of our study. To determine the effectiveness of scleral lenses as an independent method of treating corneal pathology, allowing to delay possible surgical interventions, as well as in the treatment of infectious keratitis and corneal epithelial defects. Material and methods. The article analyzes the latest foreign scientific publications since 2013, reflecting issues related to the therapeutic use of scleral lenses in the treatment of pathology of the cornea and anterior segment of the eye. Results. The ability of scleral lenses to provide continuous hydration, hydration and protection of the ocular surface allows patients to maintain visual acuity, and their ability to be used in combination with other forms of therapy makes them ideal for patients with severe corneal conditions.
