Annotatsiya

This article presents the results of a study examining the role of nerve growth factor (NGF) as a biochemical marker of neurogenic bladder dysfunction in women with urgency urinary incontinence (UUI) due to diabetes mellitus (DM). Eighty-six women aged 45– 65 years with UUI due to type 1 and type 2 diabetes complicated by diabetic autonomic neuropathy and 55 healthy women in the control group were examined. Urinary NGF levels were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) with normalization for creatinine concentration. A correlation analysis of NGF with urgency frequency, urinary incontinence episodes, total urination frequency, and the results of the validated ICIQ-SF and OAB-q questionnaires was performed. The results showed that in patients with UUI and diabetes, the level of NGF/Cr was significantly higher than in healthy women (42.8 ± 11.6 pg/mg versus 18.9 ± 6.4 pg/mg, p < 0.001), while in women with type 2 diabetes, NGF/Cr exceeded the levels in type 1 diabetes (45.1 ± 11.9 versus 37.6 ± 9.8 pg/mg, p < 0.05). Correlation analysis revealed a significant positive relationship between NGF levels and the frequency of urinary urgency (r = 0.52), episodes of UUI (r = 0.49), total urination frequency (r = 0.45), ICIQ-SF total score (r = 0.47), and OAB-q symptom scale (r = 0.54, all p < 0.05–0.01). The obtained data confirm the pathogenetic role of NGF as a marker of sensory overactivity of the bladder in women with diabetes mellitus and neurogenic bladder dysfunction.
