On the basis of a study of the long-term results of the treatment of patients with nodular goitre, the optimal volume of surgical intervention for the various morphological forms of nodular goitre has been determined. Adequate volumes of surgical treatment are hemistrumectomy, maximally subtotal resection of the thyroid gland and thyroidectomy. When adequate replacement thyroid therapy is carried out, the number of relapses after the performed surgical interventions decreases sharply. The highest percentage (4.7%) of relapses, irrespective of the morphological form of nodular goitre, was revealed with economical resection and enucleation of the thyroid node.
