Modern data are presented on the epidemiology and the structure of injuries, on the disablement of victims and on mortality in polytrauma, including combined injuries of the chest organs. The features of the clinical course of chest injuries and of their life-threatening complications have been studied. Particular attention is given to the factors contributing to the development of infectious and purulent-septic early complications of the respiratory organs.
