Annotatsiya

This article examines the use of debate, role-play, and drama as effective tools for developing students’ Englishspeaking competence in Uzbekistan. Traditional methods of teaching English often emphasize grammar and written exercises, leaving little room for oral communication practice. The article highlights how interactive activities create meaningfulcontexts for learning and help students improve fluency, vocabulary, and confidence. Debate fosters critical thinking andstructured speech, role-play develops practical communication skills, and drama enhances creativity and extended fluency.A comparative analysis shows that these techniques complement one another, offering a comprehensive approachto oral skill development. Recommendations are provided for teachers, policymakers, and institutions to integrate suchmethods into curricula and extracurricular activities, thereby strengthening communicative competence in English.
