Professional Needs of Deputy Directors at Secondary Schools

This study examines the professional needs, challenges, and motivations of deputy directors for academicaffairs in Uzbekistan’s general secondary schools. A needs analysis survey of 204 deputy directors was carried out toevaluate their experience, educational background, competencies, and access to professional development. The resultsshow that while many leaders are confident in conflict resolution, teacher evaluation, and resource management, theyencounter persistent challenges such as excessive administrative workload, limited ICT skills, resource shortages, anduneven access to training. Despite these difficulties, deputy directors remain highly motivated by student achievementand professional responsibility. The findings underscore the urgent need for targeted postgraduate programs, equitableopportunities for professional development, investment in ICT, and reduction of bureaucratic demands. The recommendationsemphasize strengthening leadership preparation and fostering school-community collaboration to improve educationalquality.
