The article presents the results of observation of 201 patients, among the examined were 106 men (52.74%) and 95 women (47.26%) aged from 39 to 89 years, who were in the acute period of ischemic stroke (IS). The results of the study showed the prevalence of milder forms of stroke 52 (51.48%) in group I and an increase in more severe forms (medium and large) with an increase in the severity of carotid stenosis in group III 29 (60.42%). The obtained results indicate that hemodynamically significant carotid stenosis is not only an independent risk factor for stroke, but is also a “background” condition, on which all other risk factors for stroke are superimposed.
