CHARACTERISTICS OF NEUROLOGICAL DISORDERS IN CHILDREN UP TO 1 YEAR OF AGE, BORN TO MOTHERS WHO HAVE COVID-19

We studied the clinical and neurological characteristics of children under 1 year of age born to mothers who had a new coronavirus infection (COVID-19) at different stages of pregnancy. The study was conducted for the period 2022-2024 in the advisory clinic of the Republican Perinatal Center. The subjects of the study were 207 newborn children. Among the observed patients, 112 (54.10%) were boys, 95 (45.9%) were girls. The studies were conducted at 1, 3, 6, 9 and 12 months of age. The main group (MG) consisted of 105 children, including 8 twins, born to 97 women who had a new coronavirus infection, COVID-19, during pregnancy. To compare outcomes, pregnancy complications and the neurological status of children, a comparison group (CG) was formed, selected according to the “case-control” principle. It included 102 newborn children. When analyzing the main group and the comparison group, among somatic diseases in women in the main group, chronic arterial hypertension (43%), anemia (77%), urogenital infections (23%), and lipid metabolism disorders (17%) predominated. When analyzing other somatic pathologies, no significant differences were found in the study groups. When analyzing the obstetric and gynecological history, it was revealed that in the main group there were significantly more miscarriages and/or a history of non-developing pregnancy. The remaining compared indicators were comparable in the comparison groups.Clinical signs of perinatal damage to the central nervous system in the form of a fairly clearly defined symptom complex were observed 2 times more often in children born to mothers with Covid-19 infected at different stages of pregnancy. Increased nervous excitability by 1.4 times and general lethargy by 2.3 times more often were observed among newborn mothers who had suffered severe COVID19.The rate of movement disorders was higher in the main group and amounted to 21.7%, while in the comparison group it was 11%, just as hypertensive-hydrocephalic syndrome was more common in the main group (27.3%) compared to the group comparison (11% p<0.05). Comorbid pathology was observed in both groups. The overall percentage of comorbid pathology in the main group is 62.9%, in the comparison group - 46%, this emphasizes the importance of taking comorbidity into account when assessing the development of neurological complications in children with coronavirus infections.
