Annotatsiya

A Ni(II) mixed-ligand complex has been synthesized from a nickel(II) nitrate hexahydrate salt, neocuproine and urea in solution, and characterized by FT-IR spectroscopy and powder X-ray diffraction. The IR spectrum shows the diagnostic shifts expected for the simultaneous coordination of the three ligands: urea binds through its carbonyl oxygen as a neutral, monodentate donor; neocuproine chelates through both phenanthroline nitrogens; and a water molecule is coordinated to the metal through its oxygen atom. The PXRD pattern of the isolated solid is not a combination of the two free-ligand patterns and indexes to a single low-symmetry unit cell, confirming that the product is a new crystalline phase. The combined data identify the product as a phase-pure, well-crystallised distorted octahedral Ni(II) complex.
