A modern approach to the complex diagnosis of both transcranial and nasal liquorrhea is considered. The terminology and the most common and used variants of classification of liquorrhea are given. The epidemiology and causes of the development of liquorrhea are described according to modern literature. The history of the study of cerebrospinal fluid and various methods of its study is briefly presented. Special attention is paid to the review of modern methods of diagnosing liquorrhea described in the literature. Both simple and publicly available "double spot" and "handkerchief" samples and high-tech endoscopic methods of visual diagnostics are considered. The role of neuroimaging methods of examination, such as multispiral computed tomography, cisternography, magnetic resonance imaging in the diagnosis of cerebrospinal fluid is determined.
