THE IMPORTANCE OF 25(OH)D AS A KEY FACTOR IN THE DEVELOPMENT OF RACHITIS IN CHILDREN

Rickets, despite being known since ancient times, continues to be a serious problem in the modern world. The study found signs of rickets in 28.9% of the children examined. The main factors contributing to the development of the disease in children include vitamin D deficiency in blood serum (78.3%), lack of preventive vitamin D intake during the first year of life (68.9%), frequent acute respiratory viral infections (49.4%), insufficient time spent outdoors (less than 20 minutes) (38.6%), birth during the cold season (autumn-winter) (32.4%), perinatal factors (32.1%), and high birth weight (more than 3500 g) (24.7%). The most significant risk factors on the part of mothers were lack of vitamin D intake during pregnancy (85.2%), nutritional disorders during pregnancy (59.0%), iron deficiency anemia (62.0%), housewife status (48.5%), young age at first pregnancy (54.1%), and complicated delivery (47.8%). It is interesting to note that toxicosis in pregnant women was significantly less common among risk factors (13.7%).
