Gender differences in language use are widely studied, yet less attention is given to how men and women choose synonyms and antonyms in evaluative speech. This study explores how English speakers express positive and negative judgments through evaluative vocabulary. Women often prefer softer, emotion-related, and euphemistic expressions such as “lovely” or “not bad,” while men tend to use stronger and more direct words like “awesome” or “terrible.” These differences reflect social norms, where women’s speech emphasizes politeness and subtlety, whereas men’s language appears more forceful and direct in communication.
