Annotatsiya

This study examines the transformation of linguistic units within the digital ecosystem of social networks, where communication is increasingly mediated by technological affordances and socio-cultural dynamics. As platforms such as Instagram, Telegram, X, and TikTok become dominant channels of interpersonal interaction, they create a unique communicative environment characterized by speed, brevity, and multimodality. Within this environment, linguistic units undergo significant transformations, including the emergence of “netspeak,” morphological hybridization, syntactic simplification, and the integration of multimodal semiotic resources such as emojis, hashtags, and visual markers. Drawing upon sociolinguistic theory and incorporating findings from Scopus- and Google Scholar-indexed research, the study employs descriptive-analytical, comparative, and content analysis methods to explore how digital communication reshapes traditional linguistic norms. Particular attention is given to the role of Computer-Mediated Communication (CMC) in redefining the boundaries between written and spoken discourse. The results demonstrate that social networks function as a catalyst for linguistic innovation, accelerating processes of lexical change, hybridization, and expressive expansion. Furthermore, the findings suggest that digital discourse is not merely a degraded form of language but rather an adaptive system that reflects the communicative needs of contemporary society. The study concludes that understanding these transformations is essential for modern linguistics and language education, especially in the context of increasing digitalization and the emergence of artificial intelligence technologies.
