Medulloblastoma (MB) is the most common embryonic tumor of the central nervous system, and although the overall cure rate is about 70%, patients with this disease have poor outcomes and long-term disease duration. MB diagnosis, risk assessment and clinical relevance are among the fastest growing areas of neurooncology. These advances are mainly due to the technological possibilities of diagnostics and risk identification, which now allow the combination of histomorphological and molecular classification. MB will serve as a prototype for other types of brain tumors on how to effectively integrate morphological and genomic data for clinic-pathological risk stratification and help develop innovative clinical trials for evidence-based medicine. This review analyzes the progress made in the diagnosis and classification of MB in modern neuroscience laboratories.
