The author considers the criminal-legal significance of the of attesting witnesses institution in the conditions of modern development of information technologies. Various points of view on the relevance of the institution of of attesting witnesses and the expediency of its preservation in criminal procedure legislation are considered. Based on the results of the analysis of law enforcement practice and scientific approaches, the author proposes to replace the institution of of attesting witnesses with the use of video recording tools during procedural actions.
