In the 16th-18th centuries, despite political fragmentation, the Khiva Khanate developed economically and culturally. The city of Khiva, the capital of the Khanate, became a center of science and culture. Many buildings, mosques and madrasas, palaces and public buildings, fortresses were built in the Khanate, and a great literary environment was created. Many poets and creative people came from the Khanate's descendants, and the Khorezm school of genealogical historiography was founded. During this period, the Khanate's economic relations with the Russian, Bukhara and Kokand Khanates, as well as China, Iran, Afghanistan and India, expanded further. Much attention began to be paid to internal and external trade relations. The importance of the Khiva covered bazaars in internal and external trade increased. This article provides information about the changes that occurred in the economic and cultural spheres of the Khanate in the 16th-18th centuries.
