This article provides a comparative analysis of information about the early history of the Kipchaks in medieval sources. Based on an analysis of the scientific literature of the historiography review, an assessment is made of the main directions, as well as development trends on the issue of studying the past of the Kipchaks. The article also examines a wide range of issues on etymology, the origin of the people, as well as early history. The Kipchak issue still remains relevant for modern science.
