Bactria (Bactriana) is a historical and cultural region in Central Asia, located in the middle reaches of the Amudarya between the Hisar range and the Indian Kush (now Southern Uzbekistan, Southern Tadjikistan, Northern Afghanistan, and South-Eastern Turkmenistan). This historical and cultural region was part of the Achaemenid Empire in the 6-4th century BC, and during this period, the traditions of local statehood were further developed in this area.
