In this article, the author considers the issues of the introduction of artificial intelligence and robots in life. As noted, the legal assessment of the essence of artificial intelligence, and the regulation of the procedure for its use, today, is becoming one of the most important tasks of law. The author analyzes possible approaches to the disclosure of the concept of "artificial intelligence" as a legal category and its correlation with the concepts of "robot" and "machine". The possibility of recognizing the properties of a subject of law in a robot with artificial intelligence has been studied. Also, the main contradictions in the definition of the concept of artificial intelligence, approaches to its identification, in particular, the problems of narrow (special) and broad (universal) understanding of the essence and functions of artificial intelligence are considered. During the preparation, such methods of scientific cognition as analysis, synthesis, generalization, interpretation, etc. were used.
