Abstract: Despite the fact that asceticism as a spiritual practice exists in almost all religions in its own way, each of them gives its own meaning and significance to this state (phenomenon). At the same time, there are general aspects of the ascetic state. This article analyzes the evolution of the phenomenon of asceticism in Christianity. Based on the research of Eastern and West scholars who have conducted research in this field, the essence of asceticism in Christianity is rarely revealed, as well as the commonalities and differences between the concepts of sects of Christianity.
