Purpose: A decrease in dopamine in the retina occurs before the symptoms of Parkinson's disease appear. This condition may be a precursor to the disease, and the study of its characteristics is currently underway. Methods: To study the role and properties of dopamine in the retinal layer of the eye in patients with Parkinson's disease, optical coherence tomography (OCT) was used to assess the thickness of the retinal nerve fiber layer and the nerve fiber layer in patients. Results: Pupilometric studies can help identify subclinical stages of Parkinson's disease and assist in evaluating the effectiveness of therapy for this condition. Conclusion. It has been established that dopamine is a neurotransmitter not only in the brain but also in the retina. Dopamine-producing cells and dopamine receptors are involved in all structural formations of the eye. In Parkinson's disease, changes in visual function occur not only in the retina but also in the entire visual apparatus. This is associated with peripheral manifestations of the disease and may precede the onset of known motor disorders.
