Currently, there is an increase in the number of cases of infectious and inflammatory diseases caused by opportunistic pathogens. One of the most important representatives of this group is Escherichia coli, however, insufficient attention is paid to the study of its individual properties and role in the development of human diseases. Our observations confirm that E. coli has the ability to suppress the development of pathogenic microorganisms. However, there is evidence that E. coli can acquire pathogenic properties and even promote the growth of pathogenic microbes.
