Objective: The number of patients with epilepsy among mental patients is increasing. The global prevalence of epilepsy is 5–10 people per 1,000 population. However, this figure is 3.6–4.2 in Asian and African countries. Methods: According to the World Health Organization, in 2015, the number of registered patients with epilepsy exceeded 39 million. The disease is more common in men than in women. Epilepsy is an age-related disease, and epileptic seizures are most common in children and people over 60 years of age. This disease is rare in middle-aged people. Results: According to neurologists, 5% of the world's population experiences an epileptic seizure at least once in their lifetime. Conclusions: Currently, there is an increase in patients with epilepsy among mental patients. The number of patients with epilepsy in our country exceeds 800 thousand, and over 5 years (1997 - 2001) the incidence increased by 38.3%. This trend was also observed according to data from the Epileptology Department of the Tver Regional Psychoneurological Dispensary.
