The maxillary sinus (sinus maxillaris) represents the most voluminous air-filled cavity among the paranasal sinuses, performing an important shock-absorbing function in the middle section of the facial skeleton. Traumatic impacts to this region frequently result in disruption of its structural integrity. This paper presents a systematic analysis of English-language publications focusing on epidemiological aspects of midface injuries and pathological changes of the maxillary sinus, utilizing the PubMed electronic medical database. The authors present and analyze current data on pathomorphological changes of the maxillary sinus in fractures of the zygomatico-orbital complex.
