The article is devoted to the anatomical and morphological features and methods of assessing the parameters of the thymus gland in children. In particular, it was noted that the thymus gland is the central organ of lymphocytopoiesis, immunogenesis and plays a role in the system of endocrine glands. By the time of birth, it is the largest and only fully structurally and functionally formed lymphoid organ in the body. The critical period of intrauterine organ formation is 7-12 weeks, it is during this period that the formation of the main structures takes place. There are 4 structural and functional zones in the lobules of the parenchyma of the thymus. The precursors of T lymphocytes migrate to the thymus from the bone marrow, but due to the hematothymic barrier, no more than 5% of the cells reach their target. The classification of changes in thymus volume includes congenital and acquired forms. Thymus hyperplasia (thymomegaly) is distinguished, which is understood as the preservation of normal histoarchitectonics of the thymus with an increase in its volume and mass. The introduction of ultrasound diagnostic methods contributed to the dynamic monitoring of the condition of the gland in case of suspected pathological changes.
