ABSTRACT This paper analyses the figurative language and its translation strategies in one chapter of the novel “O‘tkan Kunlar” (“Bygone Days”) under the title “Xon qiziga loyiq bir yigit” (A Young Man Suitable For The Khan’s Daughter) from linguocultural point of view. The author’s artistic skill of using stylistic devices and the translator’s word choices to preserve the novel’s original cultural picture, intentions, emotions and tones were examined with the help of comparative, qualitative and quantitative research methodologies. For qualitative assessment of figurative language in the novel, we used M.H.Abrams’ categorization of stylistic devices, and Q. Liu and X. Zhang’s definition of translation strategies applied in the translation of figurative language. as for the quantitative evaluation, we identified the number of sentences with each figurative language in the original text, and the percentage of the usage of three translation strategies in the target text with the help of mathematic calculations. The results of this study can be applied to develop theoretical knowledge and practical skills among translation faculty students in translating culturally specific words, phraseological units, and methods of semantic transfer into English.
